Fabulous Bordeaux Superieur.  Claret in a classic style with notes of cigar box, spice, cassis (blackcurrant liqueur), plum compote, ripe raspberry and a hint of smoke.  Very well balanced with great structure. Rich, rounded and complex.

50% Merlot 35% Cabernet Sauvignon & 15% Cabernet Franc
.  13.5% abv.  75cl

We let this breathe for 5/6 hours. It has much softer tannins, a creaminess and nice fruit, a longer finish. Very nice. My wife really liked this wine which surprised me a little as Peynaud has a higher Cabernet Sauvignon content and is a grape she normally is indifferent to. Shows how the wine makers are magicians as much as artists and grape scientists. We will be back for more Peynaud!

Chateau Peynaud is an outstanding Bordeaux Superieur and is starting to be recognised as one of the most reliable wines in the Bordeaux Superieur appellation, being greatly in demand because of its price/quality ratio. Bordeaux Superieur AOC wines have stricter production norms and are produced from selected vineyard plots, older vines and smaller yields.  As a result, these wines are generally more complex and have a better ageing potential.  Chateau Peynaud is made by Regis Chaigne (who also owns award winning Chateau Ballan Larquette) and lies in the small commune of St Laurent du Bois.  

The 2010 Chateau Peynaud is a fantastic year, 2010 being a contender for vintage of the century.  It accompanies all red meats beautifully and also pairs very well with furred and feathered game, rich casseroles, strong cheeses and nut based dishes.
