Description & Press Reviews:
Mathilde is the Second Wine of Chateau La Fleur Morange, produced by Jean-Francois and Véronique Julien with the renowned Claude Gros as consultant oenologist. The wine is named after their daughter, and is made from the same 100 year old vines and terroir as the Grand Vin. Château La Fleur Morange is a boutique wine in Saint-Pey-D'Armens that is receiving high acclaim from respected wine critics across the globe. The vineyard is a 4 acre plot of unique soil with the added rarity of having 100 year old vines. The soil is sand and clay layers over limestone and clinker sub soil – the only complex mixture known to exist in Saint Emilion.

Mathilde is opulent, well structured and rich. The wine has notes of cherries, blueberries, chocolate, plum and earth. It's an easy drinking wine and is approachable when young. It is well balanced and concentrated.

In Hong Kong recently Mathilde
went down a storm with Chinese cuisine and I would also recommend it with game, rich casseroles and cheeses.

Jancis Robinson: “Wine of the Week”
I have already published my delighted acclaim for Ch La Fleur Morange 2005 and a set of tasting notes on a Ch La Fleur Morange vertical, but Mathilde de La Fleur Morange 2006 St-Émilion is the second wine of that exceptional property. Mathilde is designed to be drunk much earlier than the grand vin but I would put its drinking window at 2008-12 and was very impressed by the management of tannins. You could enjoy this already with a bit of roast beef. It looks rich and nuanced, then is very solid, meaty and polished with great balance already. It’s a wine that manages to be both serious and opulent at the same time – very ripe-tasting (13% alcohol on the label) but without any specious sweetness. It really covers the palate in the way that top quality wine does, and should provide extremely rewarding drinking for the price.

Testimonials from Customers
:
“Mathilde 2006 is one of the nicest wines I have tasted in its price range.”

“I am not a connoisseur of wine but I know what I like and I like this La Fleur Morange Mathilde 2006 very much! It is very easy to drink, has a good body, lots of fruit and it smells divine in the glass.”

“The acid test of any wine is probably not what you feel is a good wine but what your dinner guests think. Having served the Mathilde to friends over supper all have enjoyed it immensely making very favourable remarks on my choice and have continued drinking it well after leaving the table. Need I say more?”

"Thought I'd drop you a line to say how much I enjoyed the Mathilde 2006. It is clearly going to repay a few years in a cellar but was approachable now. Knocks spots off more established names and I can't think of anything this side of £20 I would prefer to drink at the moment. I must try its big sister!"
