A supreme wine with a vibrant intense flavour, full bodied, smooth, well balanced, good blend of grapes with the Merlot softening it, a lovely bouquet and berry fruits coming through, the best wine of the evening. This wqas a great opportunity to taste some fine wines in discerning company and everyone agreed that the St Emilion was exceptional.

Description
Wine Style:  Medium Bodied Red

La Tour du Pin is a Saint Emilion Grand Cru and is owned by Bernard Arnault and Albert Frère (who also own the Sauternes Great First Growth (Premier Cru Supérieur) Château d'Yquem, Saint Emilion First Growth (Premier Grand Cru Classé A) Cheval Blanc and Quinault L'Enclos). If we go back in time La Tour du Pin was originally part of the great Figeac estate (as was Cheval Blanc). Figeac is the largest estate in Saint Emilion and is also one of the oldest Bordeaux estates. The first known historical reference to the Figeac estate dates back to the 2nd century AD, when extensive lands and a large Gallo-Roman villa were known to bear the name of their owner, the Roman pro-Consul Figeacus.

The La Tour du Pin vineyards cover 22 acres and lie between Cheval Blanc and Figeac at the edge of the Pomerol appellation. The wine of La Tour du Pin is a deep red with a purplish tint. The bouquet is fresh, complex and intense with a nicely integrated woody touch. The wine has notes of cherries, strawberries, blossom and raspberries. The attack is full and smooth leading into a silky tannic structure with a fresh edge highlighting the fruity quality of the finish.

Recommended food and wine pairing:
Super with Confit de Canard Pommes Sarladaises (duck confit cooked with potatoes in Sarladaises bacon, parsley, garlic and herb sauce from Sarlat), Confit de Canard aux Lentilles (duck confit cooked in a flavoursome Puy lentil sauce) and Confit de Canard Gastonomique (award winning duck confit from Castelnaudary).
