Domaine de Bouchet is a beautiful example of a Petit Chateau; the small vineyard lies in Fronsac and it is unknown in the UK. We are proud to have discovered this lovely Claret and be the first to introduce it to wine lovers over here. The domaine sits in Saint Genes de Fronsac in the northern canton of the AOC and is owned by the Ordonneau family who have been wine makers for several generations. Expert 'know how' has paid off with a string of awards for their wines. The vineyard is a very old one; the title 'Domaine' is unusual in Bordeaux and predates 'Chateau'. The land lies in the lieu dit of 'Boucher' (derived from the Old French word 'Bouchet' for Cabernet Franc) and belonged to the Sainte Genevieve de Fronsac priory in the Middle Ages.

In the 1800s Fronsac was more famous than Saint Emilion and Pomerol and centuries before that Charlemagne loved the supple qualities and spicy flavour of Fronsac's wine. This area has lain long forgotten but is now attracting the attention it deserves. It is becoming one of the up and coming regions of Bordeaux and producers from this area are benefiting from much interest in their rich and darkly coloured wines. Wonderfully consistent, these are wines to look out for.

Domaine de Bouchet is superb with game, venison steaks in particular. Thanks to the body and structure of the wine it pairs well with dishes made with rich sauces, casseroles and dark meats. The Ordonneaus recommend it with confit of duck and it is lovely with pigeon, roast lamb and beef or steak.
