Description

Chateau La Tour du PinA rare opportunity to try a wine that no longer exists.  La Tour du Pin is a Saint Emilion Grand Cru and is owned by Bernard Arnault and Albert Frère of LVMH (who also own Saint Emilion First Growth Classé A Cheval Blanc… which sells for 10 times the price of La Tour du Pin!).  La Tour du Pin is made by the same wine making team at Cheval Blanc and offers the chance to buy a top flight wine at an absolute bargain. Since its purchase by Arnault and Frère / LVMH only a few vintages of this lovely Claret were made before the best of its vineyards were absorbed into Chateau Cheval Blanc.

La Tour du Pin and foodIf we go back in time La Tour du Pin was originally part of the great Figeac estate (as was Cheval Blanc). Figeac is the largest estate in Saint Emilion and is also one of the oldest Bordeaux estates. The first known historical reference to the Figeac estate dates back to the 2nd century AD, when extensive lands and a large Gallo-Roman villa were known to bear the name of their owner, the Roman pro-Consul Figeacus.

La Tour du Pin pairs beautifully with feathered game such as pheasant, guinea fowl, wild duck and partridge.  It also pairs well with beef, venison and lamb, beef wellington and steak.

    Dear Nick
I don’t often write to a supplier of any products only usually with a gripe. In this instance it is to congratulate you on the advise you gave me prior to Christmas, when you persuaded me to take a few bottles of “La Tour Du Pin” with the rest of my order. It is absolutely fantastic and although a tad over my normal budget it is so good I intend to have a case. It is a beautiful wine to share with very special friends, but also a real treat to sit down stoke up the fire and have a bottle when there is no one else around and enjoy the lot and go to bed very satisfied.
    Ken
