A sublime blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from the renowned, award winning winery Les Vignerons de Roquemaure in the Southern Rhone. Les Vignerons du Roquemaure are based between Tavel and Chateauneuf du Pape and their new cuvee is made from ancient vineyards in the eastern most part of the Gard near the Mediterranean coast. The Gard marks the border between Provence, Languedoc and the Rhone Valley. This is the countryside of the Crusades, the Avignon Popes and the Church; Roquemaure Castle is the site of the death of Pope Clement V, who also owned Chateau Pape Clement in Bordeaux.
This lovely wine demonstrates the savoir faire the Roquemaure wine makers are famous for and its characteristics are close to those of rich, warm Rhone reds. In this region the classic blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon creates an intense and elegant partnership: complex Cabernet Sauvignon gives structure and body to Merlot’s legendary fruit. This combination, in the hands of Les Vignerons du Roquemaure, creates a wine that has beautiful purity of fruit and power but is also approachable and delicious to drink.
Rocca Maura is great with food; particularly Mediterranean dishes made with red or green peppers, Gnocchi, cold smoked meats and Cassoulet. It’s also good with chicken, guinea fowl, pork, venison and strongly flavoured cheeses.
