Domaine Jean Chauvenet is renowned for its ageworthy wines and the family can trace its wine making roots in Burgundy back to 1680. Today the domaine’s wines are made by Jean Chauvenet’s son in law Christophe Drag and the family’s holdings have been expanded to include several 1er Cru (Premier Cru) vineyard plots including Rue de Chaux, Les Damodes, Les Bousselots, Les Perrieres and Les Vaucrains. Domaine Jean Chauvenet’s wines are described by many as some of the most elegant and stylish in the whole area.
The village AOC Vosnee Romanee is the Cotes de Nuits brightest star and has been hailed as the greatest Pinot Noir village on earth. Vosnee Romanee is home to 12 1er Cru vineyards and 6 Grand Cru vineyards. Its classic style embodies a racy balance between elegance and power. Domaine Jean Chauvenet’s Vosne Romanee 1999 comes from the Ravioles lieu dit in the south east corner of the appellation and is made from vines dating back to 1955.
Vosne Romanee wines often need significant cellaring to develop fully and the year 1999 has been heralded as a spectacular vintage. Mature and mellow, Vosne Romanee, Domaine Jean Chauvenet 1999 will pair beautifully with strongly flavoured meats, game in particular: venison, pheasant, pigeon and wild duck. It is also good with roast beef and lamb, mushroom based dishes and mature cheeses.
