This beautiful Bordeaux Rose hails from the award winning organic vineyards of Philippe Carretero at Chateau Rioublanc in Saint Ciers d’Abzac, not far from Pomerol and Saint Emilion. His vineyards are certified ‘Agriculture Biologique,’ ‘Ecocert’ and ‘EU Organic’ which means that no chemical weed killers, pesticides, fertilizers or fungicides are used on his grapes. In fact, the vines at Rioublanc have not been fed chemical fertilizer for at least 20 years. This care for the land and passion for producing perfect wines has resulted in a multitude of awards; the 2015 vintage of their Rose gained a Bronze Medal in the Challenge Millésime Bio earlier this year.
Rioublanc Rose is bursting with fruit. It is made with Cabernet Sauvignon which gives structure and heady aromas of blackcurrant; Cabernet Franc which provides acidity and strawberry flavours and plummy Merlot which adds velvety depth. Once the fruit has hit your taste buds the crispness follows through and the wine is both elegant and refreshing. All harvesting is done by hand and the grapes are gently crushed to maximise on retaining their fragrance. The wine is aged in an underground vat in order to keep a constant temperature which keeps the clarification completely natural.
Best served at 8 – 10°C, Rioublanc Rose is a delicious glass to sip in the sunshine. It’s lovely with Mediterranean cuisine, anchovy and caper pizzas, salads, prawns, crab and scallops, Tartare of Salmon, tuna or duck, chicken or rare lamb.
